1. Clean up Šćedro!

Every year the coast of Šćedro gets covered with large quantities of waste coming from the sea as a result of irresponsible boaters, large ships or waste from the land. The association organizes an annual action of cleaning up during the winter period in order to preserve the island's environment and natural heritage.

  • In the calm and clear waters of Šćedro one can often spot the bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus). Bottlenose dolphins have an elongated hydrodynamic body shape. Their color varies from dark blue to brownish-gray on the back to very light grey on the sides and almost white at the underside, which can change into pink shade during the summer when the temperature of the sea increases. Adult bottlenose dolphins range in length between 2 and 4 meters (6.6 and 13 ft), and in weight between 100 and 500 kilograms (220 and 1,100 lb).

  • In written history the name of island Šćedro is mentioned for the first time in roman era. Back then the island was called Torcola and was the home of the Roman Taurica (Tauris). This island played an important role in Adriatic history- the crucial battle for the Adriatic was placed right here in year 47 BC, in which the Caesar's fleets defeated Pompey's. Caesar's commander Publius Vatinije had won the island Vis which thus became Caesar's port.
